Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between French windows and French doors?

Both French windows and French doors open and close as a pair, but usually have different locking systems and handles. Simply put, this is because they’re different sizes and, therefore, require different opening mechanisms and levels of security.

French doors’ frames and sashes are much thicker than those of French windows, and French doors are much taller and thinner. Despite these differences, both work with two side-hung panels that open out from the middle with no pillar between them. When both windows or doors are open, you’ll have an unobstructed view of your garden or entrance for a cool breeze.

French doors are usually fitted on the ground floor so that they open into the garden, whereas French windows are smaller, looking good on any floor. Either way, both give increased ventilation and a fabulous view from within.

Are French windows secure?

French windows are just as secure as any other window. As ever, however, this depends on the quality of the materials they’re made of, the type of glazing and the security mechanisms used.

At Launa, we try to offer satisfaction and peace of mind by providing quality in all three areas. All of our glazing is A-rated and comes with heat-toughened glass on the ground floor. All of our windows are in compliance with the Police-led initiative, which works to improve home security in the UK.

Do French windows swing in or out?

This is completely up to you! Some of our customers find inward-opening windows easier to clean from the inside, but others prefer a more traditional outward-opening model. If you have large, heavy curtains already fitted, these might make the decision for you.

What areas do you serve?

We serve Exeter, Devon, and the surrounding area, including Torquay, Plymouth, Exmouth, Cornwall, Somerset, Newton Abbot, and more.
