Double Glazing
-
Double glazing prevents heat loss which is vital for those days you want to snuggle up in front of the fire. This glazing option is also ideal for those seeking a way to reduce outdoor noise.
Made up of two glass panes and one window frame, double glazing works by filling up the gap between the glass with gas. This gas is thicker than air, working as an insulator. It works to ensure no heat escapes through the window and vice versa, keeping your home warm and your heating bills down.
You will also see a significant decrease in condensation, compared to single glazing which tends to have an issue with this. The inside pane will not encounter the outside temperature, even in the coldest of winters, as the dense air will block this transference from occurring.
Launa Windows offer you double glazing with only the best energy saving ratings. Our triple glazing takes this even further with its super energy-efficient guarantee. Although double glazing may be an investment, you will soon see the financial benefit of their installation. Double and triple glazing will both offer the energy bills of your dreams whilst keeping your home comfortable to live in all year round.
The frames are thicker than your average single glazing to fit the two glass panes. This means they are extremely hard to break and bring you even more security. Additionally, we offer double glazing with good hinges and thermally-toughened glass that keeps you protected 24/7.

Is it worth replacing double glazing?
We expect lifespans of around 20 to 30 years with double glazing. However, over time its efficiency will begin to decline.
If you notice the insulation is becoming inefficient, this a sign your double glazing is due for a replacement. This may be for a variety of reasons, but it is important to note that the gas we inserted between the windows will slowly escape over time. The heat insulation and noise-proof properties will begin to falter when this happens.
Upon replacement, your new double-glazed windows will give you the top-quality insulation and draught-proofing you and your home deserve. We install our windows carefully and with the most professional approach so are confident that your new double-glazed windows will be the most efficient you can buy.
Does double glazing reduce condensation?
In short, double glazing will reduce your condensation significantly.
Double glazing has argon gas in between the two window panes which traps heat and prevents it from transferring through the two panes of glass. This stops condensation from forming on the interior of your window as the inner windowpane will remain the same temperature as your home. Your window will remain clear and free of excessive condensation when you pull the curtains open in the morning as the gas works to prevent significant heat contrast.
However, the exterior window may show a few droplets which is a natural occurrence when the cold cannot get past the gas; this will quickly clear up when temperatures rise outside.
If you continue to face condensation after having the double glazing installed, your home may be suffering from poor ventilation. This should be tackled prior to double glazing installation if possible so you can experience the benefits of this glazing immediately.
What is double glazing?
The additional glass pane can make a huge difference in comparison to single glazing. Single glazing offers only one windowpane of protection from the outdoors, whilst double glazing doubles up the safety and warmth for your home.
It works hard to prevent cold air from coming into your home and can therefore reduce your energy bills for years to come. Two glass panes share a frame to make up the classic double glazed structure. Argon gas is then put in between the two panes which acts as an insulator, reducing heat transfer between the cold outside and the warm inside your home. Simply, this system is effective thermal insulation for your home.
What is the best gap for double glazing?
The gap between the window panes is paramount to double glazing. This is due to its noise-reducing and insulative properties that keep your home as comfortable as possible to live in. We carried out extensive research to find the right-sized gap to insert the correct amount of dense gas to be as efficient as possible without being too bulky.
We found that units of round 28mm thickness with 20mm gaps prove ideal for double glazing. It is this gap that gives you insulation, noise-proof benefits and energy efficiency.
Does double glazing reduce noise?
Soundwaves find it easy to travel through single glazing as there very little to stop it. In contrast, sound finds it much harder to get through double glazing in the same way due to the dense gas we insert between the panes. For those who crave a quieter life, we can offer you double glazing that will improve your quality of life.
We recommend double glazing for homes located next to or amongst busy areas, or next to a road a busy road. We believe that your home is a sanctuary and an escape from the restlessness of the outside world. This is why we also offer our customers top-quality Stadip Silence windows which have strong sound insulation without being too thick.
How long does double glazing last?
In its best form with the best care, double glazing can last for a lifetime. However, this will only be the case if they are installed by specialists who select the appropriate window frame to insulate your home. We also ask our customers to carry out some simple maintenance to keep their double glazed windows performing well. This only involves a quick clean.
Launa Windows bring you A-rated glass for optimal energy efficiency. This glass is extremely strong so can expect the double-glazed glass to last for many years. As for your current double glazing, you can tell its inefficiency if the glass is cold to the touch or you have to heat your home more. Contact us if you need any help on deciding if double glazing is for you.
