Are uPVC doors better than wood?

UPVC is easier and cheaper in terms of manufacturing the product. In fact, uPVC is now mass-produced, demonstrating their high-demand in today’s market. Wood, on the flip side, does need more time and craft to achieve its final product, which bumps up its price. Wood is also one of the strongest materials to exist in the world, serving both security and insulation naturally. Wooden doors do well in blocking out loud noise and harsh winds.

But don’t be fooled by the cheaper price of uPVC. These doors guarantee just as much security as their wooden counterparts. Integrating brilliant locking systems, uPVC doors promise to keep you safe, whilst the thick material insulates your home and keeps the wind out. They come from advanced technological manufacturing, meaning they are tested to do all the things a wooden door can do – if not better – and require very little maintenance.

How long do uPVC doors last?

UPVC plastic lasts for decades, as the rate of degradation is very slow with the firm material. In most cases, uPVC doors last for around 30 years or even longer. You can help keep your uPVC door’s lifespan up by carrying out some quick maintenance. Oiling the hinges and testing the locks for performance are two main activities you should carry out. You should also keep an eye on any dirt or debris that falls on them, wiping it away when the doors start to get dirty. We also recommend repairing any damage your uPVC door has as soon as possible to avoid further problems.

Can you replace uPVC door seals?

You can replace uPVC door seals if your existing ones are lacking in performance. If you see your door seal hanging off from the door or even completely fallen off, we suggest it is time for a replacement. You can do this yourself very easily. Just make sure to find your door’s appropriate size before you order it and the replacement process will be effortless. Upon installing, give it a test run and check that the door moves smoothly when you open and close it.

Is uPVC safe?

UPVC doors are perfectly safe. Vinyl polymer and chlorine make up the strong uPVC door and you will find they are made in very high-quality ways. Our uPVC doors are suitably in-line with UK safety regulations, which is all down to our choice of materials!

Safety is always paramount when making our products, and we make sure to serve you nothing short of thermally efficient and endlessly secure products. UPVC is not bendable nor easily broken, meaning it is a practical material for doors.

Please make sure to prioritise the world’s wellbeing by recycling old uPVC doors as they will not disintegrate in the same way wooden doors do with fire. At Launa, we recycle your old products for free.

How much does a new uPVC door cost?

They provide the best value for money, especially considering the ultra-modern features that come along with them (including double glazing as standard). However, there are add-ons available which can increase your uPVC door’s price tag.

For example, door size will influence your final cost. Side panels may need to be installed if your door is installed in a very wide space. The standard height for a uPVC door is around 6 foot 6 inches, so you will have to pay more if you require a door taller than this. Additionally, we offer Stapid Silence glazing for noise proofing and decorative glass for an individual look; both of these will add to your bill. We aim to be as transparent as possible with our costs, letting you control your budget when considering a uPVC door installation.

How long are uPVC doors guaranteed for?

10 years is the standard guarantee for our uPVC doors, but the vast majority of our doors last decades. However, it is important to note if your uPVC door is made of a woodgrain finish, it will naturally be less weather-resistant over time. Contact us if you want to discuss any worries or have any questions about uPVC doors.
