Do porches need foundations?
You will need foundations to have a porch installed to steady it for all possible weather. We will come to visit to assess your foundations before we start installing your porch. Our assessments involve testing to see what soil you have to give us an idea of how deep the foundations need to be. Even if you are only planning a small porch, foundations are essential to keeping the porch from tilting or subsiding over time. We install porches to last and to become one with the rest of your house.
How big can a porch be without needing Planning Permission?
Porches can normally be built without the need for planning permission. This is because the development is small enough to be considered “permitted development”. If it does exceed the norms of size, you may need to seek planning permission.
In order to not have to apply for planning permission, your porch cannot be larger than three metres squared. There should also be a distance of at least two metres between your property and a public road, and the porch cannot exceed three metres in height. Although this seems specific, organising your porch can be a really easy process.
